About our magazines

We are always on the look out for new writers, illustrators, cartoonists and other creative types to help us put together the best magazines we can.

  • Students in early primary years
  • Years K–2 ; ages 5–7
  • Fiction and non-fiction
  • Fiction: 350 maximum
  • Non-fiction: Varies but usually up to 300 words

Short articles and fiction written in a style appropriate to beginner readers are needed. Photographic sequence stories where the text is a series of short captions are also used. Plays, particularly involving class participation, are popular, as is poetry. Please note that texts for picture story books are not appropriate to a magazine format. Non-fiction can be in the form of activities, things to make and do, or articles where young children feature.

  • Students in middle primary years
  • Years 3–4 ; ages 8–10
  • Fiction and non-fiction
  • Fiction: 800 maximum
  • Non-fiction: 500 maximum

Topical and up-to-date issues are required for this age group. Articles about children of the same age, humorous, animal and adventure stories are of interest. Plays and poetry are also welcome.
